RELIGION & VALUES

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

This term in R & V students explored various topics ranging from faith, worship, Prophets, Pillars of Islam and Islamic Civilization. While it is important for our students to gain academic knowledge, it is even more vital that they develop good character full of faith, compassion, and honesty. In my classes, I have been working to improve my students’ understanding in the essence of faith by reading stories, watching informative videos, getting students to role-play. Students enthusiastically completed R&V curriculum designed for this term and enjoyed learning about our faith and religious values.

Foundation students have been learning the basics of Islam, such as the Islamic greetings, Bismillah, Alhamdulillah and some of Allah’s names, Al-Khaliq and Ar-Razzak. Years 1 to 6 students have been learning about Faith in Islam. Students learnt about the Six Pillars of Faith in detail at each Year Level. They studied these topics through questioning, brainstorming, exploring and watching videos. In order to be engaged in their learning, students also prepared posters outlining actions and benefits of Wudu and Salah.

In Memorisation classes, students have been learning surahs/du’as and also revising what they have learnt in the previous year. I kindly encourage parents to support students’ memorization tasks at home.

The school had organised an excursion to the Islamic Museum of Australia for Year 6 students. The visit to Islamic Museum of Australia (IMA) had provided an educational and cross-cultural experience to the students and showcased the artistic and cultural heritage of Muslims in Australia and all over the world. Through the five permanent galleries - Islamic Faith, Islamic Contributions to Civilisation, Art, Architecture, Prophets Life (PBUH) and Australian Muslim history - the museums raised a more nuanced and realistic understanding of what it means to be an Australian Muslim.

If you have any queries about students’ learning, please make an appointment via the office or email me at [email protected].

I wish everyone a peaceful term break.
